Which God, and which Jesus?

May 3, 2012

“Famed pastor Joel Osteen reiterated his position that Mitt Romney is a Christian on Tuesday, saying as long as the likely GOP presidential nominee believes that Jesus is the Son of God then he subscribes to the Christian faith…’When I hear Mitt Romney say that he believes that Jesus is the Son of God–that he’s the Christ, raised from the dead, that he’s his Savior–that’s good enough for me,’ Osteen said in an interview to air on CNN’s ‘The Situation Room’ with Wolf Blitzer. (CNN)”

That’s not good enough for me.

My question is, what God and what Jesus are we talking about here? Is this the same Jesus who just wants you to be happy and have all the teddy bears and candy that a doting daddy would want you to have? Or is this the Jesus who’s your spirit brother who is going to give you your own planet when you die, because you deserve to be a god too.

It’s not enough to claim Jesus’ name if you won’t claim who He is. You don’t get to decide what the name Jesus means for you. Take Him or leave Him, but stop using His name to validate your own belief system.

Only to the extent that Mitt Romney will completely disown Mormomism and embrace the God and the Jesus of the Bible, should he be considered a Christian.
